Exploring how Walnut Creek Embraces the Arts

Walnut Creek is the locus of my real estate activities for many reasons. First, I loved
living here for 28 years and never tired of is clean, metropolitan feel. Second, it is a
hub of cultural activity ranging from Art festivals to theater, music to fine restaurants,
renowned Broadway Shopping and now with a newer great library , it really has it all.
Last Friday, I wandered downtown Walnut Creek thoroughly enjoying the street art and
looking for the right introductory topic to share with the public why living in and around
Walnut Creek is a stellar choice. The weather was ideal for just soaking up the cultural
Mecca that effervesces from the city and I started with The Lesher Center for the Arts at
the corner of Locust and Civic. Inside the Lesher, the Bedford Gallery has the fabulous
Sky, A National Juried Exhibition available to the public for viewing from now until May
25th. What an amazing collection of sky concept art was amassed here and most of the
art is from San Francisco Bay Area creators and organizers Dewitt Cheng & Elizabeth
Ferrer.

The creative gambit of artistic imagination was breathing fresh air into my lungs as I
meandered through the gallery knowing that at least these people "get it" about how
precious a commodity we must protect. This exhibit is SO worth your time!
My favorite piece in the collection is the billowing Cloudscape by Rachel Sager entitled,
Paynes Plume. Other favorites include: The Cloud Stacks you see in reverse pyramid
formation at the entryway, a chair to the sky made part of the exhibit wall, a beautiful
colored film scroll.

Gallery tours are free to all schools in Contra Costa County and can be scheduled for
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings starting anywhere from 9:30 to 11am in
the mornings and are limited to 30 per group.

Tomorrow we will continue covering how Walnut Creek is a Cultural Mecca in the
street art.
